Worship Sunday at 8:30 AM and 10 AM

The First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains is a progressive Christian community with doors open wide to all people, regardless of category or faith experience.

Our primary purpose is to walk with people in their faith and lives, seeking to grow in relationship with God and one another, and to serve as a light in the community and beyond.  What visitors usually notice first is the open spirit of our members who come from a variety of backgrounds with diverse sociological, political, and thought perspectives.  We like to say that there is room in our pews for all people.

At this church, you will find relevant, progressive teaching, heart-felt worship, honest friendships, constant prayer, and compassionate care for those in need.  So whether you’re a spiritual seeker who’s just starting to ask questions about God, or a committed Christian who wants to sink the roots of your faith even deeper, you can find a home at First Reformed Church.

Let us know if we can answer any questions you may have.

Pastor’s Perspective

STAYING POSITIVE IN UNCERTAIN TIMES (November 5th, 2008)

Regardless which candidate was be elected on November 4, the economic situation we currently face will weigh heavily on our nation for years. For those at the bottom of the economic ladder, the reality is that the$750 billion bailout plan is going to defer monies from many current public programs and educational systems that will have the greatest impact on the poor both in the U.S. and abroad. The biblical mandate leaves the follower of Jesus no option other than keeping the broken and poor at the center of our priorities. “Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the Lord delivers them in times of trouble” (Proverbs 41:1). And yet, faith-based Missional aid organizations and non-government organizations are experiencing extreme loses in both contributions and investment.

Church is part of the network that is dependent on contributions-- please keep this in mind this month as you will have the opportunity to make a year-end gift and to pledge for 2009. How do we uphold the biblical mandate while facing the reality of the situation?

With the weight of the financial meltdown on all our hearts, I thought it only fitting to address it in my Sunday sermons in November. Rather than the typical Stewardship emphasis, I will direct my messages toward the ways scripture speaks to us when we go through uncertain times. Each Sunday, there will be a person from our family of faith talk about a time of crisis they faced – whether health-related, financial, or job loss -- and how they got through that time, and came out better people on the other end of the crisis. I anticipate that the series will be positive and uplifting. Come, listen, worship!  Please join us each Sunday at 8:30 am in Friendship Hall for a casual service with video projection or at 10 am for a liturgical service with the choir.

Blessings & Peace,

Pastor Kathleen
